14th Annual Animal Refuge League Paws In The Park & Furry Friends 5K Race 2011

Join the Animal Refuge League on Sunday, September 4, 2011, for their 14th Annual Paws In The Park Dog Walk at Payson Park in Portland off the Back Cove/Baxter Boulevard to help raise money for their cause - to provide food, shelter and veterinary care (including spaying and neutering) to help almost than 4,000 stray, abandoned and owner-surrendered animals find their way home.

Everyone is invited to join whether they are with or without their dog(s). Registration begins at 10am with the walk starting at 11am. Channel 8 WMTW's Erin Ovalle is the honorary emcee along with WGAN Radio Morning News hosts, Ken Altshuler and Mike Violette, who will be judges for the Cool Canine Contests - Best Bark, Best Trick, Best Dog/Famous Person Look-Alike, Best Dog/Guardian Look-Alike, and Most Fashionable.

There will also be a parade of adoptable dogs which is always a great event. This year in addition to the dog walk there is a Furry Friends 5k road race beginning at 9am around the Back Cove.

Good morning Jeff. I volunteer with an animal rescue group in my area. We do fundraisers all the time but sadly money is short, adoptions are down and so are contributions. I applaud your participation and hope the event brings many animals to their forever homes and that lots of money is raised.
