Portland Maine remains strong as jobs shift

According to a Bangor Daily News article, Portland, Maine remains strong and in fact performed better than the national average in both job growth and average wage growth from 1980 to 2005, according to Brookings Institution Report.

In the report, it sites that Portland was one of only three cities, Charlotte, North Carolina, and Manchester, New Hampshire, being the other two, that saw growth in jobs and average wages among the 114 areas studied. Portland can attribute the good news to the growth in nonmanufacturing jobs and advanced services, where our overall national economy has shifted towards over time. Cheers to good news, Portland, Maine!
